Part A of this unit is called Introducing the Classics
Purpose of this assignment -
Before we begin A Midsummer Night’s Dream, it is important to understand context and history of any Classical performance piece. This intense introduction will not only expand your knowledge as an actor, but will prepare you to perform your first Classical Monologue as part of a Presentation Performance
Scenario -
In preparation for your public performance you will research and explore Shakespearean Theatre. Using a text of your choice you will do further research choosing a monologue from that text to rehearse and perform in order to practically demonstrate your understanding of the style, genre and chosen character.
A presentation covering the social, cultural and historical background of Shakespearean Theatre.
You will analyse the
period and era that your monologue comes from, considering
- the playwright
- text
- time period
- influences
- style
- political, social, economic and religious context
You must also
explain how the chosen text and monologue could be presented in a contemporary context and address why it is still relevant to a modern audience.
Task 2
You will rehearse
and perform a two minute monologue.
This monologue will
link explicitly to the research in your presentation.
The performance will be confident and communicate the character creatively.
You must use
appropriate vocal and physical skills to portray this character and the
performance will be inventive and interesting to watch.
(The monologue you
perform must be contrasting to the character you play in A Midsummer Night’s
Dream)
